."Youth Of The Nation' ın" albümün diğer singleları " Alive" yada "Satellite" kadar ciddi bir liste başarısı yok ama anlam ve kalıcılık olarak onlaradan daha iddalı olduğu kesin.'Youth Of The Nation' üzücü bir gerçek hikaye üzerine yazıldı; daha doğrusu, P.O.D. grubu uzun süredir aklında olan gençlik sorunlarını bu olaydan sonra bir şarkı yapmaya karar verdi.5 Mart 2001 günü, California Santana Lisesinde inanılması zor ve bir okadrda üzücü bir olay yaşandı.Lisenin ögrencilerinden biri olan 15 yaşındaki Charles Williams o gün okula babasının silahıyla geldi.Okulun giriş kapısından 30 kez ateş eden çocuk 13 ögrencinin yaralanmasına ve 2 öğrencininde ölümüne sebep oldu.P.O.D. nin stüdyosu bu olayın olduğu lisenin hemen yanındaydı.Grup üyeleri normal olarak o sabah da albüm hazırlıkları için stüdyoda buluşmuş, yolda her yerde polisleri görmüş ve neler olduğunu anlayamamışlardı.Daha sonra, stüdyodaki tv den Santana Lisesi'nde gerçekleşen tüm olayı öğrendiler.P.O.D. üyeleri yıkılmıştı."Orada bizim çocuklarımız bizim kardeşlerimiz olabilirdi; bu hepimizin başına gelebilir ama böyle bir dehşet liseli çocukların başına gelmemeli" diyerek şarkıyla ilgili ilk adımı attılar.P.O.D. Sanatana Lisesindeki bu acı olayın bir esin kaynağı değil akıllardan çıkmaması gereken gerçek bir mesaj olması için yaptı şarkısını."Gençliğe neler oluyor?" diye sordular ve o günden sonra gençlik sorunlarıyla ilgili etkinliklere karşı çok daha duyarlı oldular.15 yaşındaki Charles Williams'ın ise neden okulunda böyle bir saldırı gerçekleştirdiği hiçbir zaman netleşmedi...
